Copenhagen Trip (continued)

Pssts... finally after more than 3 weeks since I came back... the complete commentary is up. Unfortunately its not very descriptive as I would have hoped for it to be. I will probably revamp it when I have the time, but till then, this is what I was up to, hehee....
Here goes:

Welcome to Copenhagen indeed!

The weather for Copenhagen on the 30/12 was forecasted as wet and windy. Nevertheless... I had come this far, and I was determined to make the most out of my holiday... windy or wet.

On Day 2, we took the bus to the city centre. First stop- Noel's mom's boutique. She specialises in evening wear and party dresses. A pleasure to browse through her collection. ALthough I have to admit that I do not have the $$$ to make any purchase, however small.

Denmark has a pretty high cost of living. Taxes are imposed at 40% which means you basically take home only half of what you actually earned. Not very appealling I must say.

Enough of taxes and all... our first stop was Copenhagen Town Square. A tip to everybody travelling to European countries...the capital will always have a square and a town hall. Make this your first port of call because it signifies the administrative hub of the town itself... you can slowly build on your other sights later.

The following are a list of places which we went to. I am so sorry... I know it should come with some commentaries, but this is the best I can dish up for the time being.

Statute of Hans Christian Anderson
Central Station
Tivoli Gardens
cross the road to the Pavillion (Cinema)
Walk along Stroget
Old Stock Exchange, Houses of Parliament
Bought postcards and souvenirs
Walked past Magasin
Royal Theatre, Musee Erotica
Visited Pete at his house
Night-came home and had dinner

3rd Next day-Amalienbourg Castle, the largest statute in Denmark and the Little Mermaid (Den Lil Haurve), Nyhavn, Stroget, New Year celebration at Pete's place

4th day-Assistants Kokgingerns (Where Hans Christian Anderson is buried), Christiania (hippy land), Spiral Church, helping Noel's mom in Rostans, New year dinner at Uncle Kyles, meeting Melanie, having authentic Danish meal.
Melanie was such a dear. At age 6 she displayed maturity beyond her age. Even as we were playing games she showed potential as a leader by dominating the games with her rules. With such angelic looks you could but only adore her. My heart almost broke when she cried because I had to leave after dinner ( it was getting rather late). And would you believe it... she does not speak English. For the entire duration of my stay at Uncle Kyle's house, which was just a matter of hours, we communicated not using words... but body language. A child knows no difference in race or religion. Surprisingly we start to discriminate as we grow older...

5th day-Malmo. Town Hall, King Gustav's statute, Sights and scenery, casino, park, windmill, ugly castle, back to town centre, Malmohus, all the way to Turning Torso, taking pic of bridge connecting Malmo and Copenhagen, freezing butt off, walking back to town, buy souvenirs, take train back.
Arrive Copenhagen at 3pm, see Round Tower, Walk around Stroget, go to Magasins.
Buy sild (herring) and caviar. Buy some more marzipan. Dinner with Noel's family.

Day 6-Pack up, said goodbyes and go back to London. Noel's parents are such a dear... you feel just at home with them around. I must admit... tears were welling up in my eyes as I said my good byes. But what Aunt Rosemarie said is true... " we must not cry, my child, for it would mean goodbye. I want to see you again. So I shall say --- see you!" I gave her a postcard telling her what a wonderful time I had and how they made me feel warm as if I were at home, despite the cold weather... wow... cheesy I know, but these were words from the very bottom of my heart. They were the most lovely parents I have ever met. Noel... if you ever read this, I just want you to know how lucky you are to be born into a family with so much love to share. It is indeed a blessing :)

And that ends my commentary on my trip to Copenhagen... hope it wasn't too brief. I had to jot all this down before the moment passes me by and I forget about it!

Ok... thats all folks! :) And thanks again to Noel, Pete, Marisa, etc. etc... all my lovely friends whom I met in Copenhagen... may the force be with you all. Have a smashing 2005!

Profile

Right... four years exactly into working life and suddenly I found the urgent need to ramble about my not so interesting life...here goes:

I am:
Liberal and radical on paper only. This is the basic description I would give myself. I am a good listener and usually offer sensible advice. If I don't sound like myself, its must be my evil twin at work :P

I am passionate about:
Music and Arts. Can't imagine what this world would be like without these two essential elements.

When I'm not working my head off I like:
Meeting new people from all walks of life and listening to their life experiences. I take things with an open mind (albeit not completely Zen like) and always remind myself not to take anything in life for granted.
And I wish:
All my friends, my family and everybody else who will somehow cross paths with me, a fulfulling life, in terms of work and relationships. And remember, you only live once. So make the best out of it. :)
