Food pics Part 1- my gastronomic adventures in Australia

In terms of food, one would be spoilt for choice in Australia. From Lonsdale street in Melbourne to the Rock in Sydney, food is a celebration of the diversity of cultures in Australia. Here you can find lovely Asian food such as Chinese , Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai cuisine,  Australian prime beef steaks as well as a dazzling array of local fresh seafood, including oysters, lobsters, salmon and barramundi. Australia offers a lovely selection of local wine which is guaranteed to give you a totally unprecedented gastronomic experience.

Those with a sweet tooth must not miss out on Golden Boronia nougats, both in crunchy and soft versions. Thanks SH for giving me these heavenly tasting stuff!  Scrumptious cakes and pastries are guaranteed to send you in a state of euphoria~Fish fish, wished you were there with me to savour the lovely food! A good assignment for your sensory analysis, don't you think?

Although eating out is considered pricey by my standards (a plate of char siew rice per person costs approximately AUD6 onwards, (RM16.80), it is worth checking out the different types of food on offer. I was fortunate enough to savour different cuisines throughout my stay (which of course sort of busted a hole in my pocket) hehehe.

Here are the pictures of food which me and my friend consumed throughout the trip. Where possible, I'll include the name of the restaurant/shop. Enjoy!!

First stop- Greco, Crown Casino, Melbourne.

I had salmon bruschetta and strawberry cheesecake for dessert. Didn't go for any main course.

and my friends had the Tiramisu.

Next stop- Queen VIctoria Market, Melbourne.

Assorted olives

Marinated octopus (not sotong orh)

Smoked salmon stuffed with herb cream cheese. I liked this one very much. But then, I am a salmon person... so there.

Next stop: Lonsdale Street, Melbourne (a.k.a. Chinatown)

Was freaking hungry cause Arch decided to walk down the whole street before settling on one stall inside a mall. So only one pic here. :p

Char Siew and Roast Pork Rice. Now... you would be wondering why I make such a big deal out of something which we can find here everyday. I've been warned by my friends who have stayed in Oz, that pork in Oz has a strange smell and puts people off. This meal was nothing more than an act to satisfy my curiosity.

The verdict? No funny smell whatsoever. So another myth busted?

Next Stop: Tea at Royal Botanical Gardens, Melbourne

Peach and almond pie.

Chocolate chip muffin-served warm! yummy..

Now we go to Heytesbury Ridge, Timboon, Victoria. This is the vineyard B&B which I stayed in. Lovely host and lovelier food! hahaha

The welcome tea set. I have a thing for dainty porcelain tea sets. Home made cookies on the left. Lovely...

And for dinner, I had grilled salmon. Lovely...

This is the cheese board.

And finally, a lovely homemade carrot cake to wash it all down. Yum yummy...

For breakfast, you have a choice of having your eggs poached or scrambled. You also get other wicked goodies like bacon, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, toast etc. Again, this breakfast sparked off a nostalgic moment. As a university student in Newcastle, I enjoyed my All English Breakfast immensely. I have an obsession for scrambled eggs and grilled mushrooms. Eating this wholesome cooked breakfast sent me back down memory lane... lovely.

Moving on, we now go to a Vietnamese restaurant near Clayton, Melbourne.

Raw beef slices in rice noodles soup. You eat it with a hearty serving of bean sprouts and mint leaves.

And yet, moving on, we go to the food fest at the Tessellar Tulip Festival. You guys hungry yet? ;)

A must try at the Tessellar Tulip Festival. Dutch Poffertjes!

Beef Croquettes. These were good.

Raspberry cheesecake.

Ok, this is the end of Part 1. Stay tuned for further updates!

Right... four years exactly into working life and suddenly I found the urgent need to ramble about my not so interesting life...here goes:

I am:
Liberal and radical on paper only. This is the basic description I would give myself. I am a good listener and usually offer sensible advice. If I don't sound like myself, its must be my evil twin at work :P

I am passionate about:
Music and Arts. Can't imagine what this world would be like without these two essential elements.

When I'm not working my head off I like:
Meeting new people from all walks of life and listening to their life experiences. I take things with an open mind (albeit not completely Zen like) and always remind myself not to take anything in life for granted.
And I wish:
All my friends, my family and everybody else who will somehow cross paths with me, a fulfulling life, in terms of work and relationships. And remember, you only live once. So make the best out of it. :)
