Memory Lane makes it to the 2005 pageviews mark! Dear friends, Today Memory Lane hit 2005 pageviews! And it would not have been possible if you, my dear readers and friends have not given me your undying support. While probloggers would probably scorn at me for making such a hoohah over 2005 pageviews (they rake in probably 4,000 hits per day, even more), but for a blog which was never publicised in the first place (I don't ping PPS), and which contains content which are mainly thoughts and musings from my heart, I think it is quite amazing that people from all over the globe have found their way to my little world here. :) Hugs to you all. Memory Lane has been online since October last year, but I only started using Onestat in June this year. I wonder how many pageviews I would have got had I used Onestat the first day I started blogging? hehhe. I would personally recommend using www.onestat.com to monitor your daily visitors and to get an idea of who comes to visit you. I have to thank 5xmom for this, she introduced me to Onestat as well as Technorati. It gives you a warm feeling to know that there are people who actually drop by, and even if they dont say hi, I hope they leave with happiness... Here's a screenshot to commemorate the day Memory Lane hit 2005! Woohoo! ![]() Thank you so much again! Note: There are 5 days until Memory Lane's first birthday! Birthday dedications are welcome, hehehee Thursday, October 13, 2005
My Nano' 05 is up and running Dear friends, I have set up another blog for posts related to my Nanowrimo attempt this November. Feel free to drop by and give your comments and support. Thanks! An amazing discovery? Or not? I had always been mistaken for someone who has native heritage. The earliest comments I received was when I was working in JB. I was either mistaken as Malay, Iban, or mixed. I guess it didn't help that I don't speak Malay with a Phua Chu Kang slang. I just don't. People say that its my eyes. "Orang Cina biasa kan mata sepet". Ok, so I have double eyelids... so do tons of other chinese descendants. So hmmm... I wonder why. Until, my mom told me that we could trace our roots back to the native community in the 2nd division of Sarawak. You see, on my mom's side, her grandmother and her great-grandmother were actually peranakan people, who wore sarongs and kebayas, ate "daun sirih", made belacans. etc. Her late mother, my maternal grandmother, wore sarongs for life and had her hair in a bun as long as I could remember. Our features are somewhat native-ish, I guess (I have thick lips, big nose and big eyes, guess that says a lot). And my maternal great grandfather, my mom's maternal grandfather, looked like a mat salleh, with deep set eyes and a pointed nose. You know what this means, right? It means that I am also part of the bangsa lain category then! Hahaha... mom said that "no wonder you kids are so bright, you had genes of the natives and ang mohs, plus your paternal grandfather's genes from China, a mixture of east and west..." Well... it adds a bit of flavour to our family conversations nowadays... mom even said that perhaps one of the Rajahs could have been our relatives, hahahahaha Just for laughs ok folks? I am still registered as "cinapek" in the National Registration Department. Tuesday, October 11, 2005
Please give your support to my debut attempt at Nanowrimo Nanowrimo is also known as the National Novel Writing Month. Every year in November, novelist wannabes and people who want to take their writing to a different level challenge themselves to the difficult task of writing 50,000 words within a month. If you achieve the task, you will be given a certificate acknowledging your efforts. There are no prizes to be won, but you get the satisfaction of being able to complete the novel that you've always wanted to write, within a month. November will be a turning point for me. I will be making some important decisions, depending on the outcome of a certain activity which I have committed myself to. I have been through a lot lately, details of which I shall not disclose here for personal reasons. But it has given me the inspiration to write. The Nanowrimo feat shall be my avenue to release my angst, my dreams, my imaginations. I am confident that after writing everything down, I will be able to come to terms with what I have been given in life, and I can move on. It is for the above reasons that I ask for you, my kind readers and friends to give me emotional support. I want to do this. And I will do this alone. I just need you to drop a line in my tag board reminding me that I have something to accomplish by the end of November. And it will be a Sweet November to remember, I am sure. For those who think I am crazy, maybe you are right. But then, you could be wrong. We shall see. :) Thanks for your support in advance. The actual writing does not commence until 1st November. So in the meantime, I shall be mulling over my plot and how I shall be going about it. Love, miracle8 Monday, October 10, 2005
Presenting to you-Sematan Palm Beach Resort Finally... after two consecutive weeks of weekends spent in the office (ugh), I have a whole weekend to myself! Bless all of you. So being the avid explorer I am, me, my brother and my sister decided to make a trip to Sematan Palm Beach Resort, a relatively new addition to the medium sized resorts available in Sematan area. Sematan is a fishing village located about 100 kilometres away from Kuching city. So if you cruise along the "highway" (its so NOT, its just a normal road with one lane going towards Sematan and the other lane going towards Kuching) at an average speed of 90km/h, you can get there in about one hour, maybe less. In the good old days when we had to take the ferry across to Lundu ( a small town which you would need to go past when you go to Sematan), we had to wait at the pier for the ferry to come and then drive cautiously onto the ferry. Well I have good news for all of you. The ferry has been disposed of and now, you can just drive across the newly constructed bridge. Woohoo! Back to Sematan Palm Beach Resort. It is a relatively new beach resort which has different types of chalets, some of which I will feature in the photographs below. Being a quaint fishing village, not many tourists find their way here, opting for the more commercialised beach resorts such as Holiday Inn Damai Beach Resort, Damai Lagoon Resort and Santubong Beach Resort, to name a few. Throngs of foreign tourists visit these large scale beach resorts, hoarding the beaches, stuffing themselves silly in the hotel restaurants etc... not my idea of relaxation. The beach is a place where ideally, one can sit down under a palm tree/coconut tree for that matter, sipping coconut juice and just enjoying the serene environment. The waves washing the shores becomes your music and the gentle breeze becomes your natural air-conditioning. Ah bliss. Anyway, a picture tells a thousand words... so here are the pics. Enjoy them! ![]() An overview of the beach: sun, sand, clear blue skies, etc... ![]() Yes... the management of SPBR wishes to remind all visitors that coconuts do fall on you, regardless of age, gender and race.. hahaha ![]() This is me at the beach... low tide, in case you were wondering. And I was deliberating then whether or not to actually walk towards the sea... ![]() Trying to look cool amidst the gentle breeze... ![]() Welcome, welcome to my secret hideaway... no, we did not stay overnight, it was just a day trip. But we were allowed to visit the empty chalets, just to get a feel of how it would be like to stay there... This is a bungalow type chalet which is fully air-conditioned with four beds and an attached bathroom. ![]() Presenting to you the ... the "I can run faster than Liu Xiang the Olympic Champion" hermit crab! I almost ran out of breath running after this crab just to get a good picture of him/her/it. ![]() Be careful whenever you wade through the waters... a jellyfish awaits you. And it is not nice to be stung by a jellyfish. Honestly. ![]() The "Quadraplex" type chalet, semi detached style. There is also a terrace style chalet which I forgot to take a picture of. ![]() The one and only purchase I made at Sematan fishing village-a huge sea shell. Which stinks unfortunately, so it is sitting quietly outside my house immersed in Dettol. Oh well... A few tips: To maximise your experience, an overnight trip is recommended. If you arrive at the resort at about 4pm in the afternoon, you will be just in time to see the sunset, and indulge in the buffet dinner (which is included in your accommodation). The next morning, wake up to the beautiful sunrise, fill up at the resort restaurant and have fun at the beach! You have a choice of cycling, kayaking or even bbq-uing at the bbq pits provided. In short, if you are looking for a semi-isolated beach resort with a personal touch... Sematan Palm Beach Resort is not a bad choice. Definitely going there with a few good friends the next time I decide to spend the night there. Absolutely beautiful.

Profile Right... four years exactly into working life and suddenly I found the urgent need to ramble about my not so interesting life...here goes:
I am: Liberal and radical on paper only. This is the basic description I would give myself. I am a good listener and usually offer sensible advice. If I don't sound like myself, its must be my evil twin at work :P I am passionate about: Music and Arts. Can't imagine what this world would be like without these two essential elements. When I'm not working my head off I like: Meeting new people from all walks of life and listening to their life experiences. I take things with an open mind (albeit not completely Zen like) and always remind myself not to take anything in life for granted. And I wish: All my friends, my family and everybody else who will somehow cross paths with me, a fulfulling life, in terms of work and relationships. And remember, you only live once. So make the best out of it. :) Tag Board Calendar
